Part 1
Spent the Easter weekend at a friends cottage in Sains les Fressin, about 70 miles from Calais. We had planned to do some cycling but the weather determined that was not to be. Friday we went to Naort to view some underground caves. last used by the German forces during the second world war. Now they are preserved as a museum. Outside is a childrens farm with a fairy tale water mill.

Wonderful place I would recommend a visit if your ever in the area. Up the hill from the mill is a windmill, a very old wooden one.

From here we went to Thiepval where the monument to the unknown soldier of the Great War is sited. A very sad and poignant place.

Such a waste from which we still haven't learnt.
More to follow.
