At last the repairs commence we can now look forward to 3 or 4 weeks of upheaval. (Not a deliberate pun) Our builder Paul got the job so we are happy having somebody we know. There is bad crack running from the kitchen window to the roof. The footings needed exposing to see if there is any underground damage, happily none.

But the wall will still have to be rebuilt but thankfully no underpinning.

The chimney stack is shared with next door as we are semi-detached and their insurers awarded the contract which my insurers will pay half of. Pauls quote was £950, the firm doing it £3,500 convince me backhanders dont come into play. The loss adjuster for next door lives in Maidstone and the builders are a Maidstone outfit.
1 pot has actually dropped inside the chimney.

We now have scaffolding up the front to the chimney and tomorrow afternoon scaffolding going up the back.

The scaffolding has provided an excellent viewing platform wouldn't mind a deck on the roof. Our garden viewed from a totally different angle.

And for the old salts among us sea views.

Well it is just visible in the top right hand corner.
The place will probably be a building site for a while but at least the end game has started, the waiting game had become frustrating. Further updates as and when.
Oh how I miss good old English Insurance companies! It seems like ages since this all happened. Glad things are moving for you both and I hope it is not too horrendous and dusty.
Don't forget to lock your windows whilst you have your scaffolding up (yes Auntie!) Remember the "nasty buglers" (as my daughter used to call them) They like scaffolding, it helps!
